Happy Teachers

This should make for some interesting talk in the staff room next week:

A career in teaching might be good for your well-being. While the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index previously revealed that business owners were richer in well-being than other job types, further research isolating teachers from other professionals finds teachers fare as well as or better than business owners in overall well-being.

I wonder how much this will change as more accountability for test scores and student achievement are upheld for teachers?

I wonder how the contracting economy and the removal of special programs and electives from school curriculum will similar impact attitudes. Right now I am trying to decide if I want to move down to the ninth grade center-teaching only first year art students, all freshmen, or remain at the main high school with a contracting advanced art student population eventually driving my job away. Even with eleven years seniority, it's a scary proposition. And I have to keep reminding myself that I have to last at least eight years to get my retirement.
