Press Bias?

Nah, couldn't be.

CNN: "Let's see... drop taxes... drop socialism. Okay, let's see. You're here with your two-year old daughter and you're already in debt. Why are you here today, sir?"

Man with child: "Because I hear a President say that he believed in what Lincoln stood for. Lincoln's primary thing was, he believed that people had the right to liberty and the r --"

CNN: "What does this have to do with taxes?"

Man: "Are you going to let me speak?"

CNN: "What does this have to do with taxes? Do you realize that you're elibible for a $400..."

Man: "Let me finish my point! Lincoln believed that people had the right to share in the fruits of their own labor and that government should not take it. And we have clearly gotten to that p--"

CNN: "Right, right, right -- did you know that the state of Lincoln gets fifty billion dollars out of these stimulus -- that's fifty billion dollars for this state, sir!"

Man: "Ma'am, ma'am, ma'am, I'm... can you stop this, sir?"

CNN: "Alright, we'll move on... (to audience) I think you get the general tenor of this, uh, it's anti-government, anti-CNN, since this is highly promoted by the rightwing conservative network Fox and... since I can't really hear much more, I think this... is not really family viewing, toss it back to you, Kera."
Lefties are really ticked off about yesterday's tea parties.

Update, 4/17/09: Turns out that so-called reporter, whom I heard today is "on vacation", had previously applied for a job at the hated Fox network. Twice.

Update #2, 4/17/09: I like this picture :-)

Update #3, 4/18/09: For the "tea party protesters are racist" crowd.

Update #4, 4/18/09: Not that I agree with everything this author says about the Tea Parties, but at least he has a reasoned thesis.

Update #5, 4/19/09: More for the "you're racists" crowd:
Lefty reader Nicholas Klemen writes: ‘You found photos of 6 black people at tea parties! Thats proof that there isn’t any racism going on at the protests. Take that Dems! Keep up the good work.” Well, there wasn’t any sign of racism at the Tea Party I attended, nor have I seen any reports from anywhere else. All I’ve seen are bogus claims of racism from apparatchik lefties who are — as Bob McManus predicted a month ago — hitting this note for lack of anything else to say, and because it’s their tired response to anything threatening.

That’s not the moral high ground you’re standing on, Nicholas. It’s just a big ol’ pile of crap.

Darren, I'm really curious to know you feelings on the Tea Parties. I am surprised that you haven't discussed them at all.

Clearly I support them. I'd have gone to Sacramento's if it wasn't held right in the middle of my work day.

I haven't said much about them because I don't have any unique commentary, nothing to add to the volumes on the internet put there by people who *did* get to attend.

This talking head is typical of the current stream of celebrity/reporters who think that their opinions override the facts or the opinion of anyone else. In short, they no longer report the story, they BECOME the story. That this comes from CNN is no surprise. They have been far left since their inception. I saw the edit and the unedited version. People tried to explain to her, but the press is so much in the pocket of the Soros/Obama coalition that they are like two year olds with their fingers stuck in their ears humming loudly to avoid hearing bedtime called. This woman totally lost whatever little professionalism she may have ever had in this clip. I actually went to my local Tea Party, and even in largely middle class Carrollton TX, there was an ACORN plant holding an "Obama=Hitler" sign, just like so many of the plants at other Tea Party rallies. This has to be a coordinated action by the Moveon.org types. They don't like it that the conservatives are organizing at the grassroots level. They thought they had all those ends wrapped up and that we would just follow along like good little lemmings. They were wrong. BTW, if Texas secedes Darren, you're still invited to come here.

San Jose had about 1000 people show up at the park down town.

The local paper "The Murkey News" covered it...in the BUSINESS section, bottom of the page, and showed only a picture of a single person who showed up at the wrong place (city hall).

...and you can't even find that story in their online edition.

I refused to post a comment from some anonymous leftie, full of bile and sexual innuendo. Lefties, God love 'em, are so predictable--and not in a good way.

Well, the CNN commentator was clearly out of line, which is indicative of the reality that they are "commentators," not reporters, and that's true from both sides. In terms of the "tea parties," I'll say this:

As thousands of people across the country hit the streets (apparently with no jobs to distract them) to protest taxes, columnist Debra Saunders offered insight into the odd appropriation of the "Boston Tea Party" allusion. As she clearly noted:

"There is a world of difference between 1773 and 2009. Two hundred-plus years ago, Americans risked life and limb protesting a distant and oligarchic system of government that did not represent the good people of Massachusetts.

No doubt many who show up at the Tea Day rallies will argue that they didn't vote for Obama and should not have to pay for his programs. I have news for you folks: Conservatives lost. American voters elected a big spender and, one way or another, Americans will have to pay for his agenda. The Obama tax hikes on Americans earning more than $250,000 have yet to materialize — but when they do, they'll be taxation with representation, a campaign pledge made good."

Even though both Saunders and I disagree with much of Obama's policies, there is something unseemly, even absurd, about current objectors aligning themselves with patriots who risked their very lives to oppose tyranny, achieve representation, and ensure the right to protest.

We currently have representative government - thus there is no connection to the Boston Tea Party.

I was going to ask about how one could possibly equate a tea party with anything *ahem* of that nature, but then I thought the better of it for decorum's sake.

So, nevermind.

Wow! You're afraid of the kind of frank analysis you throw around all the time?

You're even afraid to show the signs that those teabagging idiots were carrying around in their open air racism-masked-as-political-speech?

I'd feign surprise, but it's all too typical here. At least you're smart enough to know when you've been beaten at your own game. You're *right* not to publish the posts that decimate your errant point of view. If rightwing media does nothing--well--right, it rarely fails in this regard.

You really are the lockstep wingnut idealogue you pretend not to be. Stop fooling yourself.
